Monster Break: Wis

This month on the Monster Break, I will discuss how I made Wis, the sea monster and love interest in my short story Tomorrow. There will be spoilers in this post, so please go read my short story first and come back. Tomorrow is free and can be found here.

Now, onto the fun! Wis is a unique mermaid, and I first started working on his design when the need to write about mermaids filled my soul. I wasn’t sure how animal or human they should be and, of course, I needed a variant with tentacles. The sea monsters in Luca, the Disney film, the creature from The Shape of Water, and the Zora from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were all huge inspirations for how I want to write merfolk going forward.
Mostly, I wanted a creature that could screw a human and look good doing it. Wis is a mix of several creatures. He has the coloration and teeth of an orca, the claws of a seal on webbed human hands, his tentacles resemble an octopus although he has many more than eight. It's not specified in the story because Bea is too enamored with him to count his squirming limbs. He also can produce light through bioluminescence, which is not a thing for mammals, but the platypus is biofluorescent, semi-aquatic, and a mammal. (there are other mammals that glow under black light too) Which was exactly enough validation I needed to push forward with making my mermaid bioluminescent. It makes sense considering he has cephalopods features. A lot of the deep sea cephalopods are bioluminescent.

Why bioluminescent and not biofluorescent? Because he's a monster first and he's meant to be scary. Wis uses his pretty green glow to attract prey and eventually, Bea. I based his use of bioluminescence off of the angler fish, which taunt their future meals with a glowing appendage right in front of a mouth larger than the actual fish.

The tentacles work exactly like a cephalopod. They can feel, taste, are extremely flexible and boneless. If one is ripped off, another will grow back, eventually. He cannot ink. Too many fart jokes came to mind when I considered it.

I mention his hands are about double the size of Bea’s hand. He can hold her in his palms if he cups them together, but her legs and arms would still hang over the edge of his hand unless she curled up. For reference, Bea is an average sized 5’6" (168cm) woman.

His mouth is big too, but he can’t actually swallow her whole. She fits in his mouth like a slice of New York pizza. His teeth are pointy, like an orca, but worn, so he doesn’t hurt Bea.

All that to say that he’s large, but not too large... right? I can rant about giant love interests for days, but in short, I absolutely love making my monsters huge. Lady D. from Resident Evil: Village kind of reinforced my love for giants in a way. I made a shitpost on Twitter expressing my love for ridiculously gigantic monsters.
I stand by my statement.

Wis was designed to be scary first and sexy second. I design all my monsters with this mindset because my inspirations are the many monsters of horror.

His human features are distinctly Japanese in my mind. I imagined a young Brian Tee while writing the sea monster scenes. A 20 foot tall Brian Tee? Yes, please.

We’re nearing the end, so I want to thank everyone for reading this far. I don’t know if I will write another story with Bea and Wis, but I will make more mermaids of a very similar style in the future.

Those of you who are new to the world of monster romance may be a little put off by a giant mermaid and a human getting it on, and I’m not here to change anyone’s mind on the topic. However, I love monsters so let’s end this essay with a squish and a splat!
I need to thank @HotSatans on Twitter for even making me think about the kind of peen my monster men have. I always had an idea, but now I have even more to work off. If you love huge size differences, definitely follow @HotSatans on Twitter.

I rarely go into detail about my monster’s junk, but just so everyone is aware, Wis has a tapered penis. It’s long and skinny at the tip (a little pointy) and thick at the base. It resembles a whale peen a little, but also a tentacle (minus the suckers). So, yes, he fits inside Bea without actually breaking her in half. It retracts when he’s not aroused and his tentacles hide his balls.

Nipples?! Yes, he has nipples. Two on the chest like a human.

Pre Bea Wis wasn't that horny, and even with her, he's more interested in bringing her pleasure than himself. As mentioned in the story, he's solitary and his species only come together to mate and when resources are low. I wanted to give this type of mermaid this social aspect because it fit all three of his parts. Orcas are very social, octopuses are solitary, but cuttlefish live in small groups, humans are social. Wis is in the middle, leaning more in the cephalopod direction.

Stay tuned for more Monster Breaks where I break down the monsters in my books and shorts.
